I am one of millions of football fans with a passion for the World Game. I played football and basketball since I was a kid, and always loved both sports (among others). I believe that football thrives beyond the English Premier League, Italian Serie A, French Ligue, Spanish Primera Liga, German Bundesliga, and countless Cups around the World. If I am not writing, you can find me in the field or the court kicking, juggling, dribbling, and kicking like there's no tomorrow.

Portugal VS Netherlands 2006

The FIFA World Cup match between Portugal and the Netherlands has the most number of yellow cards ever given, and has been the most violent game in the history of football. A total of 16 yellow cards was handed out.

Maniche has scored on the 22nd minute of the match, making the only goal in the match. At the half, Portugal was the better team, having more possession than the Dutch. At the end of the match, 4 red cards were thrown, aside from the 16 yellow cards. The red cards were given to Costinha and Deco of Portugal, and Boulahrouz and Gio of the Netherlands. Lots of hard fouls were committed such as dangerous tackles, scythes, kicks in the chest, and elbows in the face.

Both teams have been playing fantastic football in the earlier stages of the tournament, and it was very disappointing to see two teams play violently. Nevertheless, this game serves as a lesson learned for the future tournaments.
