Italy VS Germany 2006 Semifinals
Perhaps, the most dramatic moment in the FIFA World Cup 2006 tournament was the elimination of the hosts Germany by Italy. It was a great battle that ended in a late drama. The whole match was evenly played, as it reached double overtime were the late drama happened.
Before halftime, Italy lead the match with 58% possession as opposed to Germany who had only 42%. The match was fast-paced and entertaining. After the 90 minute whistle, the duration ended in an intense note, sending the two teams to continue battling each other in two 15 minute periods or extra time. On the second overtime at the 118th minute, Italy was finally able to score the first goal as Grosso sends it home with the aid of a corner kick. Then on the 120th minute, Del Piero made another goal, which kills the chances of Germany winning the World Cup.
It was a superb ending to a great game. It was bittersweet for Germany being the hosts. Nevertheless, Germany have become champions somehow, playing an outstanding performance in the tournament. Bagging the third place trophy against Portugal.
