I am one of millions of football fans with a passion for the World Game. I played football and basketball since I was a kid, and always loved both sports (among others). I believe that football thrives beyond the English Premier League, Italian Serie A, French Ligue, Spanish Primera Liga, German Bundesliga, and countless Cups around the World. If I am not writing, you can find me in the field or the court kicking, juggling, dribbling, and kicking like there's no tomorrow.

The Unsung Hero

In the world of football, credit is usually given to those who score goals. That person can be anyone, but it is usually the striker and the midfielder. In some cases, defenders are also able to score goals. In the news, players like Ronaldo, Kaka, or Steven Gerrard are often mentioned and given praise.

The goalkeeper or goalie is the one and only defender of the goal who is closest to it most of the time. His job is to prevent strikers from scoring, to keep the ball clear as often as possible and to catch and make dives in the penalty spot. He holds the greatest responsibility in securing his team’s goal.

Goalies deserve the same amount of recognition just like any other player in the field. His job is very difficult, yet it is one of the most important things that the team needs. Besides, goalies are highly demanded right now, and are harder to find than scorers. We should always cherish the unsung hero.
